Candle appears to be mute, and was left in the care of maunts as her homeland was no longer safe. Music is Candle's gift, and she plays haunting and beautiful music. Given to take care of Liir after he's been injured and left for dead, Candle proves to be quite intellegent. She uses her body as well as her music to nurse Liir back to health.
Her assummed dumbness is incorrect and appeared slow witted because she did not understand the language spoken by the maunts. In Liir she finds a companion who speaks her language.
Candle seems to understand at least some English, but she will speak Qua'ati. I'm using This Translator for her language, or I'll write the English of what she's saying, but indicate she's speaking Qua'ati.
